What is Gable Roofing? This it the triangular shaped part of the roof which sits between
two sloped sections of roof, the sizes can align or vary in size depending on
the proportions of your home. It is possible for multiple gables to be
interjoined with flatter styles of roofing, however this is a feature more
common place in larger properties.
This month’s blog at Tommy Wardle Limited looks at
gable roofing. For information, call us in County Durham on 0191 410 9549 .
The Benefits For many, the low cost of this roofing pops out as a decisive
factor. The low cost or building/installation is largely down to the roofing
styles simplicity. However, despite the roofing styles simplicity, it is
available in multiple materials:
Clay Tiles Concrete Tiles Metal Sheeting
This variety offers not only a good cosmetic choice, but the
ability to cater to specific condition resistant materials.
An obvious and very desirable benefit to this type of roofing is
its sloped design, which allows for unrivalled water drainage, greatly
increasing its durability and minimising susceptibility to water damage. The
design related benefits don’t stop there. The pitched shape of the gable
roofing allows for greater storage capability compared to many other types of
roofing, and simultaneously increases ventilation within your home.
How it’s Made Two sections of roofing are placed horizontal to each other in
such a way that they slope down to opposite sides, forming a triangular shape. A
ridge board runs across the highest point of the roof’s interior, and this
allows for rafters to be attached in order to provide support to the roof
structure.
After all the individual rafters are added and covered with
plywood sheeting, a layer of felt paper is applied to protect the structure
from condensation.
Durability The quality of both materials used, and the overall job have
obvious direct influence on the roofing’s longevity. This should always be
considered in the installation process. It is accepted professionally that
gable roofing will last on average around 40 years after initial installation
but can potentially exceed this. However, this depends on factors such as
supportive framework and proper maintenance etc.
